Group Differences Forum
It's been a crazy ride and now it's all over. The group differences forum was a great way to end the class time. I think it's important to talk about our differences and find some understanding in how diverse we all really are. Some of our differences are in our control and some of them are not. Understanding our differences and the differences of our students will enable all of us to be better teachers and better people. I always believed that you have to start teaching children from where they are at the moment they walk into your classroom. Getting to know my students and where they come from and how they live will enable me to teach with a different perspective and adjust my teaching to meet their needs. I enjoyed hearing the different opinions and realized even more how different we all are and how many varied backgrounds we had sitting in one class. Each of us comes to the table with different experiences and none of us knows what we will experience down the road. Teaching and learning with an open mind will allow me to accept people's differences and maybe learn something too.
